Exploration of Choreography Virtual Dance Residencies 2021

Dance Residency in the Schools
Erica Essner Performance Co-Op is offering grades K-12in public or private schools a 6-10 week dance program based on themes of your neighborhood. Students on a journey of discovery, creating dance maps, interpreting local social dances, and creating symbol dances from NYC signs.

This remote/in-person program is offered to all districts and is subsidized by individual donors. Exploration of Dance is offering live-streaming dance classes this spring. We hope to resume in- person teaching in Fall 2021. Featuring Dance Choreography, Hip Hop, Contemporary, the Language of Dance Alphabet and more.

This unit features students as creators, performers, and evaluators. Students learn the Language of Dance symbol system in “Exploration of Choreography”. Dancers choreograph with the Language of Dance (LOD) alphabet. LOD involves the exploration, creation, and observation of movement and provides the opportunity to write dance scores and actions using a symbol system. Students explore creative movement and the joy of dance using the Language of Dance Alphabet.

ERICA ESSNER BIOGRAPHY

Erica Essner is a dance educator with an M.A. in Dance Eduction from AGDEP Hunter College and a NY State Certified teacher. Ms. Essner has 25 years experience as a choreographer and the artistic director of a Erica Essner Performance CO-Op dance company. She founded the Exploration of Dance outreach program in 2015.
