mission statement

Erica Essner Performance Co-Op incorporates a physical narrative into its intense and compelling work, in colloboration the company members create intimate and risky partnering, with an emphasis on expressionism. Creating dance that is both heartfelt and architecturally refined, Erica Essner Performance Co-Op uses the body as the narrative, and undergoes a rigorous exploration of thematic elements from the personal to the political.

Erica Essner Performance Co-Op seeks broad audiences who have limited exposure and education to contemporary dance in addition to dance- educated audiences. The company has begun a new outreach program which involves open rehearsals and open forums to create a dialogue with new audiences about dance composition and the relationship of live music to dance.

Presenting work rooted in social commentary, this New York City-based company of five has been hailed as "Exceptional...all the drama of story and character while putting movement at center stage." ---San Francisco Examiner
